Super Metroid in marathons: Never, ever, ever doing that again. Really, I learned that lesson from Retro Raisers, but by that point the run for Gaming for Honor was a done deal, and had made it into their advertising and such. Gaming for Honor was a fun weekend. It was great to see Teddy and Zack again, as well as Mhmd_FVC and twelvetides (I hadn't been expecting any runners other than those who had runs themselves to be there), and it was nice to see the other runs go mostly smoothly. I will most certainly be offering runs to future Gaming for Honor events. There were some very interested watchers when I was practicing, and this carried over to the run itself. Getting actual applause after big moments of the run was a nice experience (and one that's new for me) - and having that happen upon getting Kraid quick-kill after a really shaky early game helped me feel much better about how I was doing. And then... it was gone. (For those who didn't see, I died in the acid going for the Crocomire wraparound shot. The situation wasn't helped by how much noise there was from the other activity in the room and by my common tendency to miss small details when commentating and playing at the same time, but ultimately, it's all on me and not noticing that I needed to get that Energy Tank RIGHT NOW and do the wraparound after. Since the only mid-run backup save I had was after Phantoon and the Wrecked Ship Energy Tank, I loaded that, had the on-stream timer hidden, and continued the run.) At least I feel a little better about commentating during runs now - even though there was most definitely a lot of room for improvement there. And after we got going again, I had a good rest of the run, even if around ten minutes of the game went unseen. I'm still not sure how I feel about the time result - that creating the Phantoon backup savefile, plus the part of my run after loading it, added up to an IGT a minute better than my PB's IGT. But such is life. Now for this week's speedplans. I still want to keep going for my Super Metroid goals, though I think I'll be shifting more toward Spyro and Crash games as time goes on. Once those goals happen, I'm definitely finished with Super Metroid for a while. I only need to cut off two more minutes on any% and three on 100%. (And forget that saving-the-animals clause: it's just silly. Any run satisfying my goal times will do just fine.) Thanks for reading. <3, ~stump
